ABOUT

FORCE, was founded in 1996 by a small group of neighbors with the goal of tackling community problems by drawing on inner strengths to develop social and educational programs that enlighten and inspire residents to collective action. Our organizational mission is to combat neighborhood deterioration by demonstrating how pooling our resources can transform our neighborhoods into decent places of living. Our earliest projects were neighborhood clean ups and community carnivals. FORCE received 501(c)3 status in 2007.

What the people say:

Sara Bruce infant CPR.jpg

In November of 2022, I took my CPR and First Aid recertification class with FORCE, and it likely saved my son's life.

I was 6 months pregnant with my first child.  After we completed the primary training program, I stayed to complete the infant CPR class. I thought it would be great to learn, hoping I would never need to use it.   However, when my son was one, I did need to use those skills.  While sitting in his high chair eating dinner, my son started choking on his food.  He stopped making noise and his face started turning red.. Thankfully the training took over, and I was able to flip him over and give him quick thrusts to the back until the food dislodged.  He started screaming, and I knew he wasn't choking any longer.  I was so grateful that I had trained for that very situation with FORCE, as otherwise I likely wouldn't have known what to do.  It was a very scary situation, but my training ensured that it had a happy ending.  I am so grateful for the program at FORCE!
